Every drawing I create, I record it from start to finish. With up to 30 hours of filming, each one needs editing and condensing down to 5 minutes. There is no footage deleted out of the filming. All 30 hours of filming is just sped up to a speed that allows it to run in a quicker time. This is known as a speedrun or speed draw.

Each of my drawings begin by scaling out the drawing. This part of the drawing can take up to 10 hours to complete. That's one third of the overall drawing! I do this by measuring, horizontally and vertically, where each intricate bit of detail appears on the image, much like plotting coordinates. It is very hard to see in my videos as it is so fast, but you can see me doing this. I do this because I want my drawings to be as accurate as possible. It still requires drawing free-hand, though, since I am only marking points. I do have a joint honours degree in maths and art after all.

People always asking how I do it, asking more specifically about how I achieve the darker tones. I use Staedtler Mars Lumograph pencils since they have grades of 7B and above allowing me to achieve the dark black tones that characterises my drawings. Every artist has their own style, and this is mine. It goes back as far as my GCSE Art days when I took an interest in Renaissance art which involved an effect called chiaroscuro.
